Financial reporting and forecasting
Track revenue, margin, and cost over any time period. Break it down by customer, product, region, or service line. Use historical patterns to forecast future revenue and spot seasonal changes.
The CloudBilling Engine processes your billing data with full accuracy and traceability. Datasets make that data available to your entire organisation. Build dashboards, automate reporting, and make decisions based on data you can trust.
Your invoices go out on time. Your billing process runs. But when someone asks “what's our margin on customer X compared to last quarter?” or “which product category is growing fastest?”, the answer takes hours of exporting, combining, and cross-referencing.
Billing data is some of the richest information your business produces. It ties revenue directly to customers, products, and time. But when that data is locked inside invoices and scattered across systems, it can't do the work it should.
You end up building spreadsheets to answer questions that your data already knows the answer to.
Datasets change that.
They give you direct access to your complete billing data, clean, structured, and ready to query.
What you can do with it:
Track revenue, margin, and cost over any time period. Break it down by customer, product, region, or service line. Use historical patterns to forecast future revenue and spot seasonal changes.
When you process hundreds or thousands of invoices per billing cycle, checking them one by one is not realistic. Datasets lets you run reconciliation checks across your entire portfolio. Flag anomalies, detect outliers, and verify that source data matches billed amounts.
See which customers are growing, which are declining, and where your margin pressure comes from. Identify cross-sell opportunities by comparing product adoption across similar customer segments.
Combine billing data with your CRM, ERP, or support systems to get a cross-functional view. Match invoices against contracts. Link support ticket volume to product profitability. Track cash flow against billing cycles.
Build exactly the reports your stakeholders need. Finance wants margin by customer. Sales wants growth by segment. Operations wants billing cycle performance. One dataset serves them all.
Raise transparency with your customer to a new level. Build invoice reports for your customers to expand, filter, and analyse the items they buy from you.
"A lot of MSPs don't trust their own data. There's failures in it, things are named differently across systems, usage is never registered properly. We transform and match everything in CloudBilling, and customers tell us: we trust your data. It becomes the single source of truth. What's in CloudBilling is what's correct, what the actuals are."
MSPs work with data from many sources. When your BI dashboards, financial reports, and customer analyses are all built on the same verified foundation, the conversations change.
Datasets are a SQL Server-based relational data warehouse, hosted and maintained by CloudBilling. You connect to it using any tool that supports Microsoft Entra ID authentication.
Power BI is the most popular choice. CloudBilling includes ready-made Insights reports that give you immediate visibility into revenue, margin, cost, and usage patterns.
Beyond that, you can connect with Python, SQL tools, custom applications, or any BI platform that supports standard database connections. The data is yours to query however you need.
Datasets are available as an add-on for all CloudBilling customers.
The CloudBilling Engine handles your billing process: data ingestion, resource mapping, pricing rules, invoice generation, and approval. Datasets extend that by giving you direct access to the underlying data warehouse. If you're not yet using CloudBilling, the Engine is where it starts.
The CloudBilling dashboard gives you an operational view of your billing runs, invoices, and customers. Datasets give you the full underlying data warehouse, so you can build your own reports, dashboards, and integrations tailored to your specific needs.
That depends on what you want to do. The ready-made Insights reports work out of the box with no setup required. If you want to build custom dashboards in Power BI or connect via SQL, some technical knowledge helps. Our team assists with setup and best practices.
The dataset uses event-based synchronisation. Every change in CloudBilling, whether it’s a new invoice, a pricing rule update, or a customer change, is reflected in the data warehouse.
Yes. Customer Portals is an additional service that filters the Insights reports to show only that customer’s usage and billing data. Your customers get their own view without seeing anyone else’s information.
Any tool that supports Microsoft Entra ID authentication. Power BI is the most common choice, but Python scripts, Visual Studio SQL Server extension, and other BI platforms work as well.

Yes. Vendor cost, usage, the contractual price and your pricing rules sit in the same dataset, so revenue, cost and margin can be reported per customer, per product and per service. That is also how you catch the slow version of the problem: a price agreed three years ago that no longer covers what the vendor charges you today. The figures are there to report on, and to act on before the next renewal.
